We are so blessed to have such a helpful bunch this year! Last week as the children were running about during morning recess, one of the first grade boys approached us (unsolicited) with a desire to help. We asked, "How exactly do you want to help?". His reply was, "I'd like to pick up trash on the playground." The first grade teachers and I exchanged smiles, and told him how much we appreciated his heart to help, but there wasn't any trash on the playground to pick up. Our conversation stayed with us, and we all agreed that we wanted to encourage his desire and come up with an alternative for his idea. Later that day, we asked him if he'd like to pick up leaves. Well, the ear to ear grin let us know that the answer was, YES! The following day, PROJECT:PICK UP began. He came outside with a giant trash bag bigger than he was in tow. He begin picking up a few here and there. Each day he would return, and each day the number of helping hands grew. Today...I'm humbled to say that these little hands managed to fill a HUGE trash bag! The spirit of helpfulness and teamwork became contagious. We pray that the Lord will continue to bless these precious ones with helpful spirits and encouraging hearts.
At lunch the helpful trend continued as our little gentlemen gave up their seats so that the young ladies could be seated! What a precious example for us all!
